Nora Costigan, 90, of Hackettstown, NJ passed away peacefully on October 30, 2021 at Hackettstown Medical Center in Hackettstown, NJ.
Nora was born on November 17, 1930 in Bronx, NY to the late John and Brigette Toohey. She had four sisters, Bridie, Honey, Jackie, and Patsy, all who passed away in prior years. They were a close, loving, kind and fun Irish Catholic family.
She graduated from Cathedral High School in New York City. She won the North American Latin Champion award. She skipped a few grades and at the age of sixteen entered the work force at The New York Telephone Company.
She married the love of her life Edward Costigan who passed in 1993. He was a patent attorney at The U.S. Army Picatinny Arsenal. They met at an Irish dance in New York. Her first and only child, Ed was born in 1957. She was a stay-at-home mom until he entered high school. During that time , she became a proficient tennis player at The New York Athletic Club.
For over twenty years she was employed by Union Carbide Company and then First Brands Corporation as a customer service representative and retired in 1995.
Nora was a resident of Panther Valley for 35 years. She was a member and past treasurer of the Friends and Neighbors Club at Panther Valley. Nora loved animals and nature. She had many friends. She cherished every moment of her time in Panther Valley.
She is survived by her loving son Edward Costigan and his wife Amy. She also leaves behind many caring nieces and nephews. Nora will be greatly missed.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Friday, November 5, 2021 from 10 – 11:30 AM at the Maguire-Scala Memorial Home, 124 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ 07840. Funeral service will immediately follow the visitation at 11:30 AM in the funeral home. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery, 49-02 Laurel Hill Blvd., Woodside, NY
